The scene of the “execution” of a number of cats in the fourth episode of the Syrian series “Walad Badia” sparked widespread anger on social media.
The scene shows moments from the childhood of the character “Mukhtar Al-Dabbagh”, played by actor Mahmoud Nasr, where he sought revenge on his twin brothers in response to him pushing him from the roof of an old train, by stealing and executing the cats beloved by “Shaheen and Yassin”, using ropes in a heinous crime.
The scene sparked widespread controversy and anger among viewers, as they considered it cruel, shocking, promoting acts of violence, and giving children a disgusting perception of revenge, even though the director of the work, Rasha Sharbatji, noted before the start of the episode that the animal scene was filmed in the presence of doctors and specialists without abusing the cats or exposing them to harm.
But the massive criticism of the scene prompted Sharbatji to publish the scenes of filming the scene on her Instagram account, to reveal the whole truth.
However, this did not deter the angry comments regarding her use of cats in a scene that was “far from humanity,” in the opinion of some, despite a number of followers praising Rasha’s attention to detail and adding new, unusual touches.
It is noteworthy that the series “Walad Badia” stars a number of Syrian stars, most notably: Mahmoud Nasr, Sulafa Mimar, Samer Ismail, Yamen Al-Hajli, Fadi Sobeih, and Nadine Tahseen Bey.
The events of the series revolve around four brothers coming from the world of the leather industry and tanning, fighting over the inheritance.
