The swimming trend appeared only at the end of the 17th century, but then instead of bathing suits there were bathrobes. Swimsuits themselves appeared only in the middle of the 19th century! But first things first.

In ancient Rome, a suit similar to a modern swimsuit was used for sports training, and it was also convenient to go to the baths in these suits.

There was no talk of swimming, since only men swam in ancient times, and then without clothes. Ladies did not swim until the end of the 17th century! True, when everyone was allowed to swim, bathing suits had not yet been invented. In some countries they swam in bathrobes.

Until the middle of the 19th century, people swam in whatever they might, but during the reign of Queen Victoria, transport began to develop, tourism developed along with it: people increasingly visited the seas and it was decided to come up with a beach outfit to make it convenient to sunbathe and swim .

And in those days there was a trend for modesty, so the swimsuit covered everything that was possible. Instead of the swimsuits we are used to, people then swam in dresses or baggy pants.

At the beginning of the 20th century, more and more people appeared on the beaches and the trend for modesty and maximum closeness began to gradually fade away: skirts and pantaloons became shorter, and beach dresses with short sleeves appeared.

One of the first women who did not hesitate to appear in public in tight-fitting overalls was athlete Annette Kellerman.

Heita, as we would say today, she received a lot. However, the realization has come that such swimsuits will take much less fabric, which will significantly improve the production of beachwear.

Since then, swimsuits have been made above the knees. But not too high. There were even special auditors on the beaches who measured the distance from the knees to the shorts. For violation might even kick out from the beach!

In the post-war period, swimwear became even more open. This was due to the fact that it was necessary to save material.

A real revolution in the history of swimwear was arranged by Louis Reard, who created the bikini. This shook the moral foundations of the public greatly and caused an uproar. But thanks to many stars, including Marilyn Monroe, bikinis have become wildly popular.

In the 60s of the last century, new types of swimwear appeared:

  • monokini (there were cutouts on the sides);
  • trikini (the product consisted of four triangles)
  • tankini (there was a top or T-shirt on top)

Today, many swimsuits are quite revealing. Sometimes it can be difficult for girls to find the swimsuit itself – there are several strings. This causes both indignation (what a shame!), And admiration (what self-confident women have become!).
