The origin of the group dates back to 1912. That year, a certain François André began his activity in the field of casinos in Ostend, Belgium. He hired his nephew Lucien Barrière in 1951, before making him his sole heir.
When he died in 1962, it was his nephew, Lucien Barrière, who took over the reins of the company and gave it his name, Lucien Barrière Hôtels et Casinos.
