Making predictions and thinking regarding the future seems to be a basic human need. Both are necessary in order to be able to plan for yourself and collectively. However, what this confrontation with what lies ahead looks like is subject to constant change. However, this control euphoria increasingly turned into a crisis as the limits of control options became more and more clear. How do we think regarding the future today, in view of radical social upheavals and new threat scenarios? And how does this thinking change when science – for example through climate modeling – can for the first time make concrete statements regarding what is to come?
