MOSCOW: The European Union (EU) has banned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s girlfriend, Alina Kabeeva. Alina Kabeeva has been included in a list of Russian leaders to be banned by the European Union in the wake of the Ukraine war. Kabewa is also the latest person to be added to the list.

Sanctions, including a ban on Russian oil imports, were submitted to EU executive member states for approval on Wednesday. If the member states agree, Kabiva will be banned from traveling to Europe and foreign assets will be frozen. Kabieva is the chairperson of the board of directors of the Russian National Media Group. Rumors of her close relationship with President Vladimir Putin first surfaced in 2008. But both denied this. Kabiva, 38, is an Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Kabiva is one of the beneficiaries of Putin’s assets. Last month, the U.S. and U.K. announced a ban on Putin’s daughters, Maria Vorontsova and Katherine Tikhonova.
