The European Union comments on the incident of burning the Quran in Sweden: provocation and insolence

Today, Saturday, the European Union affirmed that burning any Bible is a public provocation and an insolent act. This came in a statement issued by the Office of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, on Saturday, regarding the tearing and burning A copy of the Qur’an Near the Stockholm Central Mosque, under the eyes of the police.

The statement confirmed the federation’s close follow-up to developments in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, which witnessed protests over the incident, calling for restraint, and condemning the attack on diplomatic buildings.

He regretted that this act was committed on Eid al-Adha, which is considered an important Islamic celebration.

He added: “The European Union continues to support freedom of religion, belief and expression at home and abroad, and now is the time to stand together for mutual understanding and respect, and to prevent tensions from escalating.

And on Wednesday, the Swede of Iraqi origin, Silwan Momica (37 years), tore up a copy of the Qur’an and set it on fire at the Stockholm Central Mosque, after the police granted him permission to organize the protest according to a judicial decision, which was met with a wide wave of condemnation and condemnation in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

This is not the first incident in Sweden, where more than 600,000 Muslims live. On January 21, the leader of the Danish far-right “hard line” party, Rasmus Paludan, burned a copy of the Qur’an near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, amid police protection.
