The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is already investigating Ursula von der Leyen’s text message scandal, reported Politico in Brussels. The focus of the investigation is the alleged exchange of text messages between the president of the European Commission and the boss of Pfizer, because this is how the president of the European Commission agreed with the American giant in the middle of the coronavirus epidemic. On his own phone, via text message, he said yes to the purchase of two billion vaccines, worth a total of 35 billion euros. According to Politico, the case came before the European Public Prosecutor’s Office at a particularly delicate moment, as Von der Leyen recently announced that he might run once more for the commission’s leading post.

According to the Brussels-based Poltico, the president of the European Commission may be worried, because in the case of the scandalous Pifzer vaccine procurement, the investigators of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office recently took over the management of the Belgian prosecutors who had been investigating. According to the newspaper’s information, which was seen by Mandiner, European prosecutors are investigating criminal charges in connection with negotiations between Von der Leyen and the CEO of Pfizer.
The accusations include interference with public functions, destruction of text messages related to the case, as well as corruption and conflict of interest.
At the same time, the article points out that although the prosecutors of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office are investigating criminal cases, no one has been charged in connection with the case so far.
According to the paper, the development came at a delicate moment for Ursula von der Leyen, as she recently announced that she is once more running for the presidency of the European Commission.

In December 2020, the President of the European Commission announced that the use of the Pfizer vaccine in the Union had been approved. Since then, shipments have been arriving continuously. First, Brussels agreed to purchase 300 million doses, and then 1.8 billion vaccines a few months later. In the meantime, however, it turned out that the agreement was concluded under very suspicious circumstances.
Ursula von der Leyen concluded the 35 billion euro deal with the CEO of the pharmaceutical giant on her private phone and via text message.
Due to the strange circumstances, an investigation was launched in January 2022, but the staff of the President of the European Commission did not find the text messages in question. It later turned out that they were not even looking for them, saying that they were too short-lived and therefore not covered by the law on the preservation of documents.
The prosecutorial investigation was originally launched by Belgian judicial authorities in early 2023 following a criminal complaint was filed by a Belgian lobbyist. The Hungarian and Polish governments later joined the complaint, although the latter withdrew its complaint following the election victory of the leftist Donald Tusk.

It is not known whether the President of the European Commission would accept the next term, nor is it clear what his chances are. Ursula von der Leyen manages the EU institution as a self-righteous leader, which many people look down on.

He added: it would be very important if the European institutions were so proud to announce the absence of corruption and transparency, then they would also act accordingly. But precisely because of the double standard, it can be seen that there are corruption cases that, as he put it, fit into it.
