“We have signed an updated agreement on the support of parliamentary democracy between our two parliaments. This is an important and symbolic step in further strengthening our long-term relationship. It is also a practical way in which we, as the EP, can help Ukraine prepare for EU membership. This partnership will be further strengthened by our decision to establish a permanent EP office in Kyiv,” R. Metsola announced at the press conference.
She also emphasized that this step shows the efforts of the European Union (EU) and Ukraine to get closer to each other in a complex geopolitical context.
“The EP is clearly demonstrating its support for Ukraine, and Ukraine is clearly demonstrating its desire to integrate into European structures,” the EP chairperson asserted.
In turn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine R.Stefančiuk said that Ukraine adheres to and continues to fight for European ideals and European values.
“We are moving forward, despite the circumstances, the war. Because we see that the EU is a global perspective for Ukraine. I thank you for this very important step we took today,” said R. Stefančiuk.
In addition, he emphasized that the Ukrainian parliament carries out all the reforms that are required of Ukraine, because it is clearly understood that these reforms are primarily needed by Ukraine.
“We will adopt all the necessary laws, we will exercise parliamentary control, because we, the representatives of the parliaments, are the representatives of our peoples, and our peoples want peace in this war, they want the victory of Ukraine and they want to further develop mutual cooperation,” the head of the Ukrainian parliament asserted.
The approved decision, it is said, will facilitate communication with the Ukrainian parliament, especially in order to connect it with certain committees of the EP, and will facilitate administrative work.
The EP has a Liaison Office in each Member State which helps to communicate with stakeholders by organizing events and liaising with the local media.
