The sources stated that the promise was made, during the European Council meeting, by the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

Official sources declared, on Thursday evening, for News.ro, that, on the sidelines of the European Council, President Klaus Iohannis presented to the President of the European Commission, Ursula vin der Leyen, the difficult situation in which Romanian farmers find themselves, who must be supported as a result of the losses suffered.

“President Klaus Iohannis requested the reanalysis of the situation by the Commission. President von der Leyen announced, during the meeting of the European Council, that the European Commission will reanalyze and return to the figures for Romania”, said the cited sources.

President Klaus Iohannis stated, when asked, on Thursday, in Brussels, what explanations he received for the fact that the EC decided to allocate only 10 million euros in compensation for producers subject to the shock of grain imports from Ukraine, that those in the European Commission had to take into account the fact that Romania made huge sacrifices to facilitate the export of grain from Ukraine to world markets.

“It is regrettable that such ultra-bureaucratic approaches question the good faith of the Commission”, added the head of state.

Romania will receive only 10.05 million euros in compensation for producers subject to the shock of grain imports from Ukraine, much less than other states in the region, which, according to Romanian officials, were less affected by this situation.

The Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daea, was criticized for this failure.

The European Commission announced, on Monday, that it wants to use a crisis reserve to support farmers in Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, a reserve totaling 56.3 million euros, financed from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reserve, for to compensate for the economic losses due to the increase in grain and oilseed imports from Ukraine and to limit the impact of market imbalances.

Therefore, the EC proposed the allocation of 29.5 million euros for Poland, 16.75 million euros for Bulgaria, and 10.05 million euros for Romania. At the same time, the European Commission will authorize the three states to double the amounts allocated, through state aid.

The Minister of Agriculture Petre Daea explained that he did everything necessary for the country and for the farmers. He added that the amount from the EC will be doubled with the amount that will be allocated from the state budget, “in such a way that we support farmers who have grain in warehouses and not grain traders”, according to News.ro.
