The European Union is preparing compensation worth 100 million euros for farmers in five countries, including Bulgaria, and it is planned to introduce restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain.
This became clear following a video meeting of the ministers of agriculture from Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia with the vice-president of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis.
The condition is that Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia withdraw their individual bans on the import of Ukrainian products.
“The European Commissioner presented the support package that the Commission is providing to the five countries, consisting of 100 million euros from the European Commission’s crisis reserve and a package to regulate imports from Ukraine. It foresees the activation of emergency protection mechanisms, which means the suspension of imports until June 5 of the following products: wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and rapeseed. The European Commissioner noted that this measure can be taken within 48 hours following the countries that have taken unilateral measures withdraw them”, said the Romanian Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daia.
