Certain European states have asked for exceptions when it comes to Russian gas imports, but it is a mistake, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said in an interview for Austrian publication DerStandard. He believes it would be right to completely ban Russian gas in EU states, even if this means that prices will be higher for a while. “We also have to consider what might happen if the Russian Federation wins,” said Ciolacu.

Ciolacu’s statements regarding Russian gases
- Certain countries have asked for exceptions when it comes to Russian gas. I can understand this from an economic point of view, but in my opinion it is a mistake.
- Romania learned its lesson a long time ago and that is why it is no longer dependent on Russian gas. And for a week, even the Republic of Moldova no longer depends on Russian gas.
- So there are always solutions for difficult economic problems.
- That’s why I think it would be right if we ban the sale of Russian gas or some Russian products in the EU and in democratic states.
- Yes, a complete ban! Because there is a very big difference between what we lose, namely a little comfort, compared to what is happening in Ukraine.
- We also have to consider what might happen if the Russian Federation were to win. Could we thus create an opportunity for people like Putin to clone themselves in other European states? I think that the EU is preparing for total independence from Russian gas, even if gas prices will be higher for a while.
- We cannot compare the fact that prices in the EU have increased or that we can no longer go on vacations so often, with what is happening now in Ukraine.
The Austrians from OMV come to Bucharest to obtain the modification of the Offshore Law
Gases are a major concern for Austria. We remind you that the Director General of OMV, Alfred Stern, has scheduled a visit to Bucharest for next week, in order to negotiate with the representatives of the Government the modification of the Offshore Law, according to several HotNews.ro sources.
This visit takes place in the context in which the Romanian state was sued, claiming provisions from the Offshore Law, which would not be to the liking of the Austrian company. The Austrians want to be able to have more freedom in exporting gas from the Black Sea to the west.
