The European Union is investing 1.6 billion euros allocated to the energy and digital transition in Morocco, according to an announcement made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen during her trip to the Kingdom.
“Morocco is the EU’s leading economic partner in Africa,” she stressed at a press conference alongside Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.
She assures that Europe is working “on the development of a green partnership between Morocco and the European Union” and that this is the first to be developed “with a partner country”.
“This will also allow us to commit together to the development of our greener energy,” continued the former German minister.
For his part, the head of the Moroccan government explained that he wanted to “seriously ensure the strengthening of this relationship to which the Sovereign attaches very particular importance” specifying that “Morocco wants to move forward in its partnership with the EU in through the realization of major projects.
Ursula Von Der Leyen wishes to “strengthen the connectivity of society, including, thanks to a broad digital partnership”, of which she believes that “a lot can be done” in particular “to further integrate economies, and better adapt them”.
“It will be for the benefit of our companies, their employees, and all workers,” she pleaded.
It should be noted that the envelope allocated to Morocco within the framework of this cooperation is part of the “global gateway” initiative which mobilizes nearly 300 billion euros until 2027 for the climate, digital and sustainable infrastructure development.
