The establishment, already targeted by 12 complaints for deaths deemed suspicious and negligence, suspended its scheduled surgery activity following a new death this Tuesday.

An internal investigation. The lawyer for the Remiremont Hospital Center (Vosges) explains on BFMTV that the management of the establishment “has decided to ask all surgeons to justify that the surgical protocols which are imposed are perfectly respected”.

“She is conducting an investigation to verify that this protocol is being respected,” adds Mr. Frédéric Berna.

This decision comes following the death of a 78-year-old patient in this hospital on Tuesday. According to Vosges-Morning, this death would be linked to management problems upon leaving the operating room. “We are waiting for feedback on October 11 to take stock of the situation,” explains Frédéric Berna.

12 complaints filed

The Remiremont Hospital Center has already been the subject of 12 complaints filed by families of patients since 2022. At least seven of them concern deaths of patients deemed suspicious by their relatives. Other complaints were filed for “unintentional injuries.”

After the announcement of this new death, the scheduled surgery activity was temporarily suspended until October 11. In total, 80 operations have been canceled and only emergency operations will be carried out.

Following these various complaints, “the ARS had already initiated, from January 2, 2023, a medical-administrative inspection responsible in particular for examining each identified case”. Beyond this internal investigation, the courts also took up the subject and a judicial investigation was opened.
