The epidemic is running out of steam but remains topical overseas

The latest weekly report from Public Health France made public on Wednesday indicates a drop in the intensity of the flu epidemic. Metropolitan France has experienced a “decrease in the majority of indicators” of the disease, the report reads. The agency, however, wanted to highlight the notable length of the epidemic episode, which is not over.

The virus still relevant in eight metropolitan areas

The flu is indeed still present in a large number of metropolitan areas. Eight of them remain considered in the epidemic phase. On the other hand, the phenomenon is coming to an end in Corsica, Île-de-France, Occitanie, Normandy and Hauts-de-France. The situation is different overseas. The epidemic is still ongoing in the West Indies and has recently hit the island of Mayotte.

The virus circulating in France at the start of the season had experienced a drop in power at the start of 2023. But the disease began to circulate once more following the appearance of a new strain. The 17th week of the epidemic has ended, explained Public Health France, noting a duration of the phenomenon never before reached between 2010 and 2022.
