What is whooping cough?
Whooping cough is a droplet-borne, highly contagious disease that can affect people of all ages. It is especially dangerous for babies under the age of 6 months who do not yet have adequate protection, he said earlier Ágnes Rósa, vice president of the Association of Home Pediatricians (HGYE) of our newspaper. In patients younger than six months, a serious, sometimes fatal, outcome must be expected. During bouts of coughing, there is a severe lack of oxygen, which can lead to brain damage, pneumonia, respiratory failure, and even rib fractures as a complication. Adolescents and adults usually show milder symptoms, not infrequently the infection is confirmed against the background of a cough lasting for weeks.
There was also a diarrhea epidemic
In its weekly report, the authority also reported that between July 22 and 28, a mass community gastroenteritis outbreak was reported. In Hajdú-Bihar county, an enteric epidemic started on July 20 with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps among workers at a workplace.
They know of a total of 564 patients, of whom 39 were Alex Reed workers, and no one was hospitalized.
The patients all had lunch in the same kitchen, the food chain safety and animal health department of the government office has also started investigating the case, and the laboratory tests are still in progress. The public health department of the territorially competent government office also examined the drinking water, and 16 samples were taken from the balloon and refrigerated drinking water tanks provided to the Alex Reed workers, as well as from the tap water in the dining room. In no case did the results meet the quality requirements of drinking water. The authority took the necessary measures.
In the family of a man from Fejér County who was diagnosed with a tick-borne encephalitis virus disease in the 29th week, tests confirmed tick-borne encephalitis virus seropositivity in 3 more people in the 30th week. The 13- and 15-year-old girls needed hospital care, while the 46-year-old mother was asymptomatic. Family accumulation can be linked to the continuous consumption of unheated (raw) goat milk.
In Hungary, in the 30th week of 2024, West Nile fever was diagnosed for the first time in a 59-year-old woman from Hajdú-Bihar County and a 51-year-old man from Budapest. During the epidemiological investigation, it was revealed that the patients had not traveled abroad, so the infections can be considered to be of domestic origin. In the hospital, the treating doctors experienced confusion, fever, headache and drowsiness in the patients.
In the 30th week, a case of viral hemorrhagic fever of imported origin was reported in a 41-year-old Indian male patient living in the county of Vas. The patient visited India during the incubation period. The diagnostic laboratory test confirmed the pathological role of the Dengue virus.
Two suspected cases of malaria were also reported. One of the patients is a 15-month-old male infant with German citizenship, who was traveling with his parents in Hungary when his symptoms appeared. They arrived from Africa two days before the onset of the disease, where they stayed during the incubation period, so the child could acquire the infection there.
The other patient is a 56-year-old man living in the Pest county who fell ill in Ghana, where he received anti-malarial treatment, the NNGYK said in its weekly report.
