The most explosive cocktail in the history of the Summer Festival? Certainly the one that brought together the anarchist punk group Bérurier noir, its restless admirers, the Plains of Abraham and a violent storm, in 2004.
It was quite a storm. Rain, hail, wind. Across town, emergency services had to respond to flooding and fallen trees.
On the Plains, where nature was unleashed in the early evening, it was chaos. The site was transformed into a pool of mud and the festival-goers, galvanized by the artists who played in the first part, began to throw them everywhere. Their main target: the spectators who ate comfortably in the corporate boxes. These had to be evacuated.
The concert still took place and it lived up to expectations. Pigsty, Hélène and the blood, Hail to you, Bérurier noir delighted his fans during this final and unforgettable visit to Quebec. A real beurière fiesta.
This anthology show has also been immortalized. A documentary surrounding Bérurier noir’s presence at the Festival d’été and the entire performance are available on YouTube.
As for the Plains of Abraham, they were in a sorry state following the passage of the French.
“Everything was black. There was mud all over the place, and a smell of rot emanated from the place,” recalled general manager Daniel Gélinas, in an interview with the Journal few years ago.
