“The Engagés movement has decided to define itself outside the humanist project”: Véronique Lefrancq leaves the Engagés

It was on her Twitter account that the politician decided to announce her withdrawal from the Engaged movement. “A new page is turning”, for the alderman of 49 years.

“I feel like an orphan politically speaking. I need an identity and markers that I can’t find anymore”, details the ex-CdH in its publication. However, she specifies that she will not leave the humanist project, only the political party of the Committed.

The member of the Brussels Parliament, who has been involved for 18 years in the center party, no longer feels in her place in the new political project of the Committed. “The Movement has decided to define itself outside the humanist project and to give a new identity. I obviously respect the process and the choices made by the convinced, but it is not my choice.”

Nevertheless, Véronique Lefrancq will continue to honor her political mandate as an independent member of the Brussels Parliament.

She opposed several times the federal deputy Georges-Dgermany for his remarks on the veil but also the former mayor of Jette, Hervé Doyen.

In June 2021, she was indignant, as was Joëlle Milquet, to whom she is close, remarks by Georges Dallemand on the veil. Several representatives, supported by Véronique Lefrancq, had demanded the reframing of the deputy by the ethics committee of the party. Maxime Prévot had not decided in their favor.

Véronique Lefrancq embodied the supporters of the inclusive line (“communitarian”, say their opponents) of the party, opposed to that of Georges Dallemand, advocating strict neutrality.

Maxime Prévot “takes note”

Maxime Prévot, president of the Committed, reacted to the announcement of this departure.

Véronique Lefrancq informed us of her decision to leave the movement following the change of the CDH to Les Engagés. I regret that Véronique might not find herself in our new movement. I take note of his decision. With the presidential team, however, we do not have the same perception of the arguments put forward by the MP to justify her withdrawal.“, he specifies.

Indeed, the will to work towards a nuanced policy, the overcoming of the obsolete left-right divide, the alliance of effort and generosity, the defense of equality, the respect of all convictions, are founding elements of the identity of the Committed. These are humanist values, more contemporary than ever, that we explicitly claim in our Manifesto and that we continue to want to embody.

The Namurois refuses to enter into the conflict and the controversy with the Brussels deputy. “We wish good luck to Véronique.”he concludes.
