The end of the delayed receipt? The government confirms this new postponement

Our colleagues from Free lunch revealed that the government had the decision to once once more postpone the deletion of the receipt. Basically, it was to be implemented on April 1. Finally, the Minister for the Economy and Finance mentioned that this would be done at the end of summer or start of the new school year.

End of the receipt: postponement of the measurement!

In France, every year, nearly 30 billion tickets are printed for us at the time of our purchases. Indeed, this impressive figure includes receipts, bank cards, promotions or even purchase vouchers. A large and harmful sum for the planet and our health. Thus, it was important that the government put in place a measure.

But, the legendary receipt is not yet completely dead. Initially, this measure was to become mandatory from January 1, 2023, then it was April 1, now we are talking regarding this summer or the start of the school year in September 2023. On the other hand, you have already noticed that many distributors no longer give it with the customer’s consent.

This approach starts from a good intention with several objectives. The first concerns ecology and aims to limit the production of paper waste. The second concerns the risks to human health. In fact, receipts contain chemicals that would be endocrine disruptors. Not to mention also the savings on paper expenses.

The reassuring receipt for customers?

But, then, why is the measure postponed for the second time? Obviously, the reason would be the current inflation which rages and grows every day. The receipt would still be a benchmark for many customers in this complicated context. Indeed, it allows them to track their expenses, which reassures them. In addition, it also allows them to verify that the correct price has been applied to the product.

So, three months ago, the government felt that the timing was wrong. Besides, some people also think that this is not the right timing for the pension reform…

A bill dating from 2019

So, obviously, the savings on the receipt, it is not for tomorrow! However, the project has been in the small papers since 2019 and led by the MP for Hérault Patricia Mirallèswho has since become Secretary of State for Veterans Affairs.

Implementation during the summer period

The Minister of Economy and Finance confirmed that this second postponement was going to take place. The date in the calendar is not yet completely fixed, but it would be either August 1 or September 1. But, it all depends on the level of inflation by then. Indeed, if it continues to climb, should we expect a new report?

According to a survey, consumers are still attached to this old habit and many continue to collect their paper receipt. Case to follow!
