The very conservative United States Supreme Court on Thursday ended affirmative action programs at universities, a new historic U-turn a year following its reversal on abortion.
Its six conservative magistrates judged, once morest the opinion of the three progressives, unconstitutional the admission procedures on campuses taking into account the color of the skin or the ethnic origin of the candidates.
Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy on Thursday hailed the US Supreme Court’s decision to end affirmative action programs at college, saying it would restore “equality” between students.
“Now students will be able to compete on the basis of equal criteria and individual merit. This will make the university admission process fairer and confirm equality before the law,” he tweeted.
