Throughout the world, women share the same share of suffering but to varying degrees. It is said that European or American women do not have the same philosophy of freedom as African or Arab women. They do not share the same conditions of deprivation. However, a bouquet of good intentions puts the precariousness of the conditions into perspective and allows the hope of confronting their increasingly visible determination.
In the past, as soon as they presented their profile, women were exposed to exclusion. And yet, they are called to occupy the most envied positions. It’s true, from now on, we see them everywhere where their expertise is necessary, in the police, the gendarmerie, the army, ministries, agriculture or commerce…, and I forget some of the best.
Indispensable for development, they manage in certain cases to bear the heavy burden of the world on their frail shoulders. Generous, they breastfeed the men of tomorrow and the children in line with their original missions. Which makes them givers of life.
Can we exclude women from the march of the world? Yet we know that it is life itself. And then, who has this childish ambition to ostracize women? If it is not man his lifelong companion, who then?
Fingers accuse tradition and religion because both, through their interpretations, predict particular destinies for women that are being undermined today by overseas civilizations. The Beijing summit in September 1995, inspired by the West which brought together women from all continents, is a perfect illustration of this. This historic summit spoke of breaking the links that hindered growth, through proposals sometimes considered blasphemous.
Since then, the world has moved on, the conditions of women have improved in terms of freedoms, but paradox! Since the gap is widening between her and the man, her lifelong companion. Divorces are increasing, marriages are becoming rarer, as if men, now destroyed in their power of pride, were giving up their arms. This would be serious for the perpetuation of the human species.
After more than a century of combat, they are beginning to taste the fruits that were once forbidden to them.
Over the last forty years, the struggle has reached its peak, associations and movements defending women’s rights have grown like mushrooms in Africa, like the NGOs whose mission is the fight once morest poverty and disease.
In Senegal, the fight continues, led by intellectuals. They harangue their sisters and constantly infuse the new realities of freedom and equality.
To you Woman, my respects!
