The Emperor of Japan and his wife arrive in London for a state visit

London, (EFE).— The Emperor of Japan, Naruhitoand his wife, the Empress of the massarrived in the United Kingdom today, Saturday 22 June, before beginning a state visit on Tuesday 25 June, during which they will be received by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The imperial couple landed at Stansted Airport outside London, where they were greeted by the Japanese ambassador, Hajime Hayashiand the Viscount Brookeborough on behalf of the British monarch, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.

Private activities

Tomorrow Sunday and Monday 24thThe 64-year-old emperor and his 60-year-old wife will engage in private activities, including visits to Japan House in west London and the Thames Barrier Reef in the east.

The welcome

He tuesday 25at the beginning of the official visit, the prince Guillermoheir to the throne, will go to their London hotel to collect them and they will travel together to witness the parade that the Horse Guards will hold in their honour. At this event, the British kings will welcome them.

Accompanied by Carlos IIIthe Emperor of Japan will inspect the Guard of Honor.

The two, along with the Empress, the Queen and the Prince of Wales, will then take part in a carriage procession along The Mall to Buckingham Palace, where they will be greeted by a second Guard of Honour.

Following lunch at the palace, the British monarch will treat his guests to an exhibition of items from the Royal Collection on Japan, following which the couple will visit Westminster Abbey.

At night, Carlos III, Camilla and other members of the royal family will host a state banquet at Buckingham, where the King and the Emperor will make speeches.

The banquet will be attended by the British Prime Minister, the Conservative Rishi Sunakand the leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmerwho are campaigning for the general elections on July 4.

He Wednesday 26th, Naruhito will visit the Francis Crick Institute of Biomedical Research and in the evening the couple, together with The Duke and Duchess of Edinburghwill attend a banquet hosted by the Lord Mayor of the City of London.

The official farewell, on Thursday 27th

He Thursday 27thOn the last day of the state visit, the Emperor and Empress will formally bid farewell to Charles III and Camilla and visit an exhibition dedicated to manga at the V&A Young museum in east London.

According to the palace statement, Emperor Naruhito will make a private visit to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, just outside the capital, to lay a wreath at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II.

He Friday 28ththe Japanese imperial couple will make a private visit to the English city of Oxford, where they both studied at the university.

The British royal family had initially invited the emperors four years ago, following Naruhito ascended to the throne in 2019, but the trip was put on hold due to the Covid pandemic, until now it has come to fruition.
