The Emirati President meets the Sheikh of Al-Azhar in Baku

The meeting between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and the Sheikh of Al-Azhar came on Monday evening, on the sidelines of the twenty-ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

According to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, the meeting, which took place at the residence of the President of the Emirates in the city of Baku, discussed relations between the UAE and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and cooperation between the two sides in the field of enhancing dialogue and understanding at the regional and international levels.

The meeting also touched on the “COP29” conference and the important role of clergy and religious institutions in enhancing awareness of the seriousness of climate change, in addition to the importance of preserving the environment and the necessity of pushing forward international climate action for the benefit of humanity and protecting the planet from the dangers to which it is exposed.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for the civilizational role played by Al-Azhar at the global level, especially in the field of spreading moderation and coexistence, while the Sheikh of Al-Azhar thanked the Emirati President for the support that the UAE provides to Al-Azhar and the role it plays, praising the UAE’s humanitarian approach in The region and the world.

In a statement about this meeting, Al-Azhar said, through a post on its social media accounts, that the Grand Imam stressed the depth of relations between Al-Azhar and the UAE, and the role of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed in supporting Al-Azhar’s global efforts, and supporting many joint initiatives, most notably the initiative Council of Muslim Elders, praising the humanitarian approach of the United Arab Emirates and its sponsorship of many global events and projects in the fields of tolerance and human brotherhood.
