DUBAI, 22nd August, 2020 (WAM) — The Emirates Post Group announced the issuance of a series of distinctive commemorative stamps that celebrate the Emirati almond fruit, as part of the group’s efforts to raise awareness of natural and agricultural resources and the importance of their sustainability for future generations. The selection of the Emirati almond fruit came due to its close association with local culture, its place in popular memory, and its great popularity among different age groups.
The Emirati almond tree is one of the varieties of Asian fruits of tropical origin, and belongs to the family of semi-evergreen trees. This tree grows in various regions of the UAE and is distinguished by its trunk height exceeding 10 meters, and the growth of its branches horizontally, forming a large area of shade. Emirati almonds are characterized by their delicious taste, and their variety of uses to include cooking and preparing folk medicine recipes, in addition to classifying their kernels as a kind of nuts.
Abdullah Mohammed Al-Ashram, CEO of Emirates Post Group, said: We are pleased to issue these commemorative stamps in continuation of our commitment to preserving the environmental and cultural heritage of the UAE. These stamps reflect the beauty of the local nature and remind us of the symbolic value of the Emirati almond fruit, and stress the importance of documenting its role in the lives of our people over generations.
The new commemorative stamps have a unique design that reflects the beauty of the Emirati almond fruit and its place in the UAE from a cultural and heritage perspective, and highlights the importance of protecting the environment, preserving the heritage, and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.
