The Emirates’ environmental strategy, beyond climate, business and diplomacy

It is often presented as the city of excess. Dubai, the economic capital of the United Arab Emirates, is hosting the COP28 on climate change from today (November 30, 2023). A paradox for some. Because the Gulf monarchy is one of the main oil producers in the world. But the authorities are also increasing environmental announcements at the same time. Without losing sight of their economic interests and their soft power.

Stunting, a Pakistani scourge

Growth retardation in a child has irreversible consequences if it is not treated before the age of 2. In the province of Sindh in Pakistan, at least in certain villages, among children under 5 years old, 2 out of 3 children are affected, the figure continues to increase… To the point that the World Bank is alarmed and is urging the Pakistani authorities to take emergency measures, this is indeed a major health crisis. What follows is sometimes difficult to hear.

Report from Sindh by Sonia Ghezali with the collaboration of Shahzaib Wahlah and Sameer Chandio.
