The Emirates encourage the production of green ammonia in Germany | Atalayar

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced plans to partner with German companies to produce clean ammonia with the lowest possible carbon footprint. The goal is to produce ammonia with a zero carbon footprint, which will help reduce industrial carbon dioxide emissions in Germany and improve air quality.

ADNOC announced a partnership with the German state government of North Rhine-Westphalia and industry to develop a low-carbon value chain for the ammonia industry. This collaboration aims to improve the sustainability of ammonia production globally by reducing the impact on the environment.

This announcement comes following the Government of North Rhine-Westphalia, ADNOC and GMBH & Co Corenta signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a strategic partnership on the Chempark chemical complex.

This partnership will allow ADNOC to make investments in the chemical complex, taking advantage of the Corenta facilities to develop its activities in the chemical sector. The memorandum also provides for the exchange of knowledge, experience and technology between Corenta and ADNOC in order to improve the competitiveness of both companies. This partnership will enable ADNOC to expand its presence in the European chemicals market and contribute to the creation of a sustainable chemical economy in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Ammonia is a low-carbon fuel used in a variety of industrial applications, such as transportation, power generation, and steel, cement, and fertilizer production. Mona Neubauer, Deputy Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, stressed the need to develop renewable energy production and to produce other materials that carry climate-neutral energy, such as green hydrogen.

Neubauer pointed out that large amounts of green energy imports are needed to meet existing needs and to achieve climate protection goals. He said work was underway to enter into partnerships and create an import infrastructure to supply the industrial sector.

Besides, ADNOC Expands Ammonia Business to Meet Growing Global Demand for Low-Emission Power Sources. The Emirati company is cooperating with the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia and Corinta to help reduce emissions in the main center of the German industrial sector. This objective is achieved through the use of its abundant and competitive energy resources, as well as the adoption of low-emission solutions. In May 2021, the company announced the development of a new global low-emission ammonia production project at the Chemical Industrial Zone of the “Taziz” Integrated Industrial System in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. This project will have a production capacity of one million metric tons per year and will allow the company to extend its strategic energy partnerships throughout the hydrogen value chain. Trial deliveries of low-carbon ammonia have been ordered to the company’s customers in Germany and Asia to examine its use in various fields.
