The free university extension courseEmergency and Medical Emergencies Adviser”began last Thursday, March 16, at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Comahue (UNCo).
Students learn theoretical-practical tools to efficiently manage an emergency or urgency and channel the help that each patient needs.
This is an initiative of the Osde Foundation that is being carried out for the first time in the interior of the country. The course is also taught at the UBA (University of Buenos Aires) and at the USAL (Universidad del Salvador), but only for medical students and related careers.
At UNCo, the great differential is that the course is open to a broader public to community service, such as emergency operators or telephone service. And even for people without experience who want to be linked to this type of job in the future.
Dr. Agustina Sosa Belaustegui, teacher and coordinator of the course, says that the diversity of the students was a new aggregating experience. “There were police officers, firefighters, operators who worked in civil defense. They asked us very specific and varied questions.” And he adds that “the majority sought improvement in their work.”
The organizer of the course and in charge of Emergencies OSDE Patagonia Node, Fernando Filippelli, affirms that “until now, only people admitted to the different emergency services were trained. Having knowledge regarding urgency and emergency is a need that involves different sectors of the community.»
