The tragedy took place at a private person’s rubber plantation in Kappamvila at 9 am yesterday. The victim was identified as Unnikrishnan, 35, an elephant owned by Saji, a native of Puthenkulam, Kollam. The elephant, which had been panicking for hours, was taken to Kollam by the Elephant Squad from Kollam.
Unni was sitting on an elephant when he was instructed to take the cut timber from the rubber plantation to the road. As he tried to reconcile, the more enraged elephant shook Pappan and threw him down. Then, he dug into the trunk and hit the ground several times. Still, Kali did not stop kicking and squeezing his body with his trunk. The driver of the lorry carrying the timber and his assistant shouted and the locals ran away. The elephant, which was standing near Pappan’s body, did not allow anyone to approach him.
