the electric Volkswagen combi will cost a small fortune

Ah the Volkswagen combi! The mythical van of the German manufacturer has long seduced adventurers and drivers in search of freedom at the cost of questionable comfort. While the first models find a second life among van-life enthusiasts, Volkswagen is launching a 2.0 electric version of its combi.

Presented March 9, 2022, the ID.Buzz uses the codes of the original model with a welcome touch of modernity. If we knew everything about the new darling of Volkswagen, the price remained unknown. Moreover, the manufacturer has still not communicated it.

Nevertheless, the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control has just revealed (accidentally?) the prices of ID.Buzz. And it shouldn’t hit the same target as its predecessor.

ID.Buzz: a Volkswagen combi at a golden price

If the BAFA only reveals German prices, we can reasonably expect more or less comparable prices in France. And be careful, it will hurt the wallet.

The family version of the ID.Buzz (77 kWh, 204 hp, space for 5 people) will thus be offered at a price of 54,270 euros excluding tax, i.e. almost 65,000 euros including tax. The model intended for professionals will be available at a price of 45,740 euros excluding tax, or nearly 55,000 euros including tax.

With such prices, the ID.Buzz is therefore reserved for a public with comfortable finances. This is all the more true as this price range virtually excludes it ecological bonus.

In effect, the latter is established at 6000 euros (5,000 euros from July) for the purchase of a new vehicle for less than 45,000 euros. The bonus drops to 2,000 euros for a vehicle sold between 45,000 and 60,000 euros. Beyond that, the vehicle is no longer eligible.

With such prices, there is no way to lower the bill. Especially since the prices announced by the BAFA do not take into account the different options. However, Volkswagen (just like the other manufacturers with the exception of Tesla) does not hesitate to charge high prices for all these “little extras”. We can already see this with its current electric vehicles, such as the ID.3 for example.
