The election of a deputy speaker of Parliament tests Berri’s strength

The “Free Current” is betting on the “challenges” in the Lebanese elections to win 3 deputies

The opposition blocs and personalities in the Lebanese Parliament will face several challenges in the next stage, with the elections that begin with the election of a speaker and a deputy for parliament, then naming a prime minister, forming the government, and finally electing a president of the republic, which puts them before a “test” of unity and coordination among them to prove whether they are capable. To confront “Hezbollah” and its allies, who today control the Lebanese decision.

While the outcome of the election of the Speaker of the Parliament is settled in favor of Speaker Nabih Berri, with the absence of any competing Shiite candidate, following the “Amal” and “Hezbollah” movement took over the Shiite representatives in the parliament, the battle of the deputy speaker is seen as a test of Berri’s strength. who had previously depended on the loyalty of his ally, Elie Ferzli, who failed in the recent elections.

Expectations revolve around this battle between three personalities, none of whom are directly affiliated with Berri: former Deputy Prime Minister Ghassan Hasbani of the “Forces”, former Defense Minister Elias Bou Saab of “The Current”, and former head of the Bar Association Melhem Khalaf, a member of the Change Deputies. Other names are proposed, such as MP Ghassan Skaf, who is close to the “Socialist” and MP Saji’ Attia from the Akkar Development bloc, who met two days ago with Berri.

Another battle highlights the opposition to the election results. The “Free Patriotic Movement” is betting on these “challenges” to win three additional seats that might raise the number of its bloc members from 18 to 21 deputies.
