The Election Commission’s decision to file a review appeal against the decision of the Peshawar High Court

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to file a review appeal against the decision of the Peshawar High Court on the issue of bat election symbol of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Sources said that an important consultation meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner in which the ECP has decided to approach the Peshawar High Court against the decision.

According to the Election Commission sources, the Election Commission will file a review appeal in the Peshawar High Court against the decision of the High Court on the issue of bat election symbol.

It should be noted that yesterday the Peshawar High Court had issued a written order suspending the Election Commission’s decision to withdraw the election symbol of bat from PTI. The 3-page written order was written by Peshawar High Court Justice Kamran Hayat.

In the written order, the court had remarked that depriving the political party of the electoral symbol is a violation of the right of its voters, after hearing the detailed arguments of the parties, the decision of the Election Commission is suspended.

The judgment pointed out that while the general elections are going to be held on February 8, January 13 is the last day for issuing election symbols.

In the written decision, the court clarified that the decision of the Election Commission on 22 December 2023 is suspended.

The Peshawar High Court, in a written judgment, also directed the Election Commission to put PTI’s certificate on the website and restore the election symbol while also ordering notices to be issued to the parties on January 9, 2024.
