Egypt – Egyptian Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki met with the Commander of the US Central Command, Michael Corella, and his accompanying delegation, which is currently visiting Egypt, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Defense.
The meeting discussed a number of topics of common interest in light of current regional and international developments, especially in light of the current crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces stressed the distinguished relations between the Egyptian and American armed forces in various military fields.
He pointed out the importance of coordinating efforts among all active forces in the international community to reach calm, a ceasefire, and intensifying the implementation of aid through the Rafah land crossing to alleviate the extremely difficult humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
While the Commander of the US Central Command praised the pivotal role played by the Egyptian state in achieving security, stability and balance in the region, as well as the efforts made towards the crisis in Gaza, stressing his country’s keenness to support strategic partnership relations and continuous coordination between the Egyptian and American armed forces.
Lieutenant General Osama Askar also met with the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Michael Corella, Commander of the US Central Command. The meeting dealt with enhancing the prospects for military cooperation for both countries.
The meetings were attended by the US Ambassador to Cairo, the US military attaché in Cairo, and a number of commanders of the Egyptian and American armed forces.
