The film “Issa” by Egyptian director Mourad Mostafa won the “Rael” award for best short film at the Critics’ Week at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
The film’s official page on Facebook said: We are proud that our film “Jesus” or “I Promise You Paradise” by Egyptian director Murad Mostafa wins the “Golden Ryle” award for best short film in the Critics’ Week competition at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival. This award was voted on by a jury of 100 members and film critics.
Director Mourad Mostafa had announced the participation of the movie “Issa” (I promise you paradise) in the Critics’ Week competition at the Cannes Festival, which opened on May 16 and ends the day following tomorrow, Saturday.
Mustafa said in a previous statement to Al-Jazeera Net that “Issa” is his fourth short film in which he continues to achieve the goal that he started in the previous works that were all shown at the French “Clermont-Ferrand” festival, especially the first film “Henna Ward”, which dealt with the issue of non-Egyptians – specifically Africans- who live in Egypt.
The events of the movie “Issa” revolve around a 17-year-old African immigrant in Egypt who races once morest time to save his loved ones following a violent accident. It stars Kenny Marcelino and Kenzi Mohamed.
The “Rail d’Or” is a symbolic prize awarded to a feature film and a short film, within the Critics’ Week at the “Cannes” Film Festival, by the Association of Film Lovers since 1995.
In recent years, independent and short Egyptian cinematic works have emerged, to participate in international festivals and win important awards, including the film “Stacher” by director Sameh Alaa, which won the Palme d’Or as the best short film at the “Cannes” festival in 2020, and the movie “Rishes” by director Omar Al-Zuhairi, who won It won the Best Film Award at Cannes Critics Week 2022.
