Egypt’s national handball team won the silver medal at the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria, following losing to Spain 28/27 in the final.
The first half ended with a score of 16/13 in favor of the Pharaohs, in a half in which the players, Ali Zain, Mohamed Sanad, Mohab Saeed and veteran goalkeeper Karim Hendawy starred.
While the second half witnessed a remarkable focus for the Pharaohs from the beginning through offensive play amid the brilliance of the players, Ahmed Adel, Ahmed Al-Ahmar and Ali Zain, but the Spanish side quickly regained its balance and then achieved a tie and then progressed in the penultimate minute until the meeting ended in their favour.
Spain’s handball team qualified to face the Pharaohs following beating Serbia 42/38 in the semi-finals, while Egypt’s handball team qualified by defeating Macedonia 34/20.
In the first round, Egypt beat Italy 35/38, beat Serbia in its second match 35/28, and beat Tunisia 30/26 in the third match, to set up a date with Macedonia in the semi-finals.
The first round competitions witnessed the cancellation of the handball match between Egypt and Slovenia in the Mediterranean tournament, which was scheduled for 3:30 pm on Friday, due to the withdrawal of Slovenia, due to the infection of 7 players with the Corona virus.
