Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian Football Association announced, on Tuesday, the appointment of Portuguese Rui Vitoria as coach of the Pharaohs national team, for a period of 4 years, until 2026.
The appointment of Roy Vitoria as a replacement for coach Ihab Galal, who was sacked following leading the Egyptian national team in only 3 matches.
The Egyptian Federation wrote, through his account on Twitter: “Roy Vitoria, technical director of the Egyptian national team, the Egyptian Football Association reached a final agreement with the Portuguese, Roy Vitoria, to lead Egypt’s first team for the next 4 years,” and attached his tweet with a video clip bearing the announcement of the signature.
Rui Vitoria led several Portuguese clubs between 2006 and 2019, namely: Fatima, Pacos de Ferreira, Vitoria Guimaraes and Benfica, and won 7 titles with them: the Portuguese League (twice), the Portuguese Cup (twice), the Portuguese Super Cup (twice) and the Portuguese League Cup.
Rui Vitoria, 52, won the award for the best coach in the Portuguese League twice, in 2015 and 2016.
Vitoria trained the Saudi club Al-Nasr during the 2018/2019 season, and with the team won the Saudi League title and the Saudi Super Cup.
Vitoria’s last training stop was with Russian club Spartak Moscow.
Roy Vitoria played 563 training matches with various clubs, winning 287 matches once morest losing 163, and drawing 113 matches.
It is noteworthy that Vitoria’s first official match with Egypt will be once morest Malawi in the African Nations Cup qualifiers, next September.
