The iPhone 15 will have a sustained production rate
The iPhone 15 family smartphones are now official. Last night, the big annual Apple conference put an end to the rumors by lifting the veil on four new iPhone models which will still be manufactured by Foxconn. The Taiwanese company’s factory in Zhengzhou (China) is the nerve center of Apple’s mobile phone manufacturing infrastructure. However, you should know that Foxconn has recently gone through a difficult period. Indeed, the strict control imposed by the Chinese government during the pandemic, both on companies and the population, caused an exodus of workers which significantly reduced the multinational’s workforce.
This situation undermined its production capacity and, last year, Foxconn struggled to maintain the production rate of iPhone 14 agreed with Apple. This year too, Cupertino expects the launch of the iPhone 15 to be a successand to do this, Apple must necessarily be able to sell enough smartphones in stores to meet demand. The ball is in Foxconn’s court and, in these circumstances, the pressure is especially on the factory with the greatest production capacity: that of Zhengzhou. The company cannot afford a walkout like last year and has taken matters into its own hands.
Foxconn managed to recruit to meet Apple’s demands
In December 2022, when the Zhengzhou factory was supposed to produce iPhone 14s around the clock, Foxconn was short regarding 100,000 workers. Faced with such a shortage, it was impossible to reach the production volume agreed with Apple. The launch of the iPhone 15 campaign therefore required the company to take steps in advance and strengthen its position. And thanks to the “carrot technique” the company has managed to increase its workforce. Workers at the Zhengzhou factory who participate in the production of parts for the new iPhones will receive a bonus of approximately 880 US dollars during the current manufacturing campaign. This measure aims to retain employees of this factory and is also an obvious attempt to attract more personnel to achieve the production volume required for the launch of the iPhone 15.

In mid-2019, when the technological war between the United States and China was already underway but had not yet reached the virulence it has today, a Foxconn executive stepped up to ensure that , if circumstances required it, they might move the manufacturing of iPhones intended for the American market outside the borders of China. The countries best placed as alternatives to the state led by Xi Jinping were India and Vietnam, but today, four years following these declarations, China continues to be the production force of Foxconn… and Apple.
