After six weeks of strike and as many unpublished issues, the editorial staff of the Sunday newspaper (JDD) ended its social movement on Tuesday 1is august. There Society of Journalists (SDJ) of JDD announced that it had signed an agreement with the management of Lagardère News, ending a forty-day strike. The website of JDD must resume its activity on Tuesday, and the paper version of the newspaper must return to newsstands “from mid-August”said Lagardère in a press release.
The editorial staff opposed since June 22 the appointment as head of the newspaper of Geoffroy Lejeune, who came from the far-right magazine Current values et “whose values are in total contradiction with those of the JDD ». The strikers demanded“provide journalists with guarantees of legal and editorial independence”.
On the night of Monday to Tuesday, the editorial staff voted the end of the movement by 94% – 82 votes for, 5 once morest. “It costs us to recognize it (…) : if we have put the issue of the independence of editorial staff back in the public square, in front of our shareholder, we have not won”, continues the SDJ in its press release. Despite this unprecedented movement, the arrival of Mr. Lejeune at the head of the newspaper took effect on 1is august.

The SDJ also thanked “all those who have supported us during this long and difficult conflict, which has made it possible to put the question of editorial independence back at the heart of public debate”.
