In the Meeting Interview with Julio Villagrán, conducted by Marvin Aguilar, the economists Julia Evelyn Martínez and José Luis Magaña, debated the economic situation of the country, highlighting that the economic model that the government is carrying out is based on expropriation of land, something that has already happened in the past and currently with Bukele’s presidency the neoliberal model will be reinforced.

“The economic model that the government is carrying out is being carried out through the dispossession of the communities’ lands.”comments Magaña

“The neoliberal 3.0 model is coming that is being promoted by the emerging business group that wants its place at the table of the Salvadoran oligarchy, the group of Bukele, brothers and company SA de CV”Martinez mentioned.

They also highlighted that in the most recent Salvadoran oligarchy, the Bukele family was excluded from that group of economic power, for this reason Nayib Bukele’s father had a position aligned to the left, but now that Bukele is president they are the ones who are accumulating wealth.

There are parts of the national territory in which literally the capital accumulation processes of these companies of the Bukele group are taking control of production, commerce, advertising, tourism and food”highlights Julia Evelyn Martinez.

On the issue of debt bonds issued by the Salvadoran government, the economists mentioned that these are sold to the international financial market and that they buy investment funds that have to be paid over a period of up to 30 years.

“The last bond issue that was made was in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic where a bond of 1,000 million dollars was issued for 9.75% with a 31-year term, which means that it has to be paid in 2052”says José Luis Magaña.
