The Economic Corridor: Implications, Debates, and Potential Consequences

Immediately following the announcement that Saudi Arabia had signed a memorandum of understanding with the United States to establish an economic corridor linking India and Europe, with the participation of the European Union, the Emirates, France, Germany, and Italy, there were two corridors in our region: an economic corridor, and an “ideological corridor.” how? The signing of the memorandum of understanding on the economic corridor at the G20 summit in India sparked discussions at all levels among those wondering regarding the seriousness of the matter, those thinking regarding its benefits, as well as those fearing its consequences.

The camp of construction, stability and development through serious ideas, led by Saudi Arabia, is now calculating the benefits, returns, and what the Saudi economy can achieve and the stability of the region, while there are those who think otherwise; The search for a role is not in partnership, but according to the method of either me or no one else. The first declared opposition statements were issued by the Turkish President, who said there is no economic corridor without Turkey, suggesting that the economic corridor be through Iraq to Turkey, and not through the Arab Gulf states, specifically the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

This contradicts Turkish policy towards Iraq. I say “contradicts”; Because it is strange that Ankara is demanding an economic corridor through Iraq, which it is bombing under the pretext of fighting terrorism, and the whole story is of course related to the Turkish position on the Kurds, so it cannot bomb a country and its alliance economically at the same time!

We hear the same criticism from some of those affiliated with Iran, specifically in Lebanon, and the question here is clear and simple. It is not possible to secure the “state line” from Tehran to Damascus, passing through Iraq, then Lebanon, for smuggling weapons and militias, and you want it to be a goods line at the same time!

As for Lebanon and the Iranian group’s talk there that the economic corridor is merely a service to the “Zionist” project, this is something that can only be described as a ridiculous joke. No one in Lebanon has the right to comment on the economic corridor, especially following the maritime demarcation between Lebanon and Israel.

Of course, no one can say that this demarcation was done by politicians and not Hezbollah. Party leader Hassan Nasrallah himself blessed the demarcation, and said at the time: “With regard to the resistance, the mission is over,” adding; That is, Nasrallah declared, at the time, that “all the exceptional measures and mobilizations that the resistance had taken, he announced that they had ended,” and that “the mission was accomplished.” And the agreement was “a great and very great victory for Lebanon… for the state, for the people, and for the resistance.”

Well, the Muslim Brotherhood remains, some of them affiliated with Turkey, allied with Iran, or those who want to reposition themselves now. They are seeking to achieve an “ideological corridor” by taking advantage of the memorandum of understanding regarding the establishment of the economic corridor. Brotherhood leaders and symbols are now trying to say that the one harmed by the economic corridor is the Suez Canal, as if they are keen on Egypt. They are also now trying to exploit the “ideological corridor” to deepen their relationship with Turkey.

Bottom line: The era of slogans and laughing at the chin has ended, and it is in my interest to take into account my interest, and whoever wants to participate and compete positively is welcome. Other than that, there is no place for outdated slogans that do not enrich or satiate oneself.
