ALGIERS – The Minister of Finance, Laaziz Faid, received Thursday in Algiers, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Algeria, Li Jian with whom he discussed the bilateral economic and financial cooperation and the means to strengthen it, indicated the ministry in a statement.
This meeting, held at the headquarters of the ministry, was an opportunity “to review the state of bilateral economic and financial relations, as well as the ways and means to further consolidate them”, according to the same source.
The exchanges highlighted “the excellence of the historical bilateral relationship and the strategic partnership between the two countries”, underlines the ministry.
The discussions focused in particular on “the conclusions of the visit to China made by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, last July, during which the leaders of the two countries showed their firm desire to consolidate the solid relations between Algeria and China and to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation,” the statement said.
In this context, the two parties have focused on several areas of common interest, including the promotion of investments, the strengthening of bilateral trade, as well as collaboration in the infrastructure and development sectors.
Particular attention was paid, during these discussions, to the financing of major strategic economic projects, such as the exploitation of iron ore in Gara-Djebilat and integrated phosphate in the east of the country, Port- Center and rail, specifies the ministry.
In addition, Mr. Faid, while welcoming the contribution of Chinese companies in the development of the Algerian economy, expressed the wish for a “more assertive” involvement of these companies in the Algerian market, in particular, through the investment, we add.
For his part, the Chinese ambassador to Algeria “expressed his satisfaction with the quality of relations between the two countries, while reiterating his country’s continued commitment to further fruitful Algerian-Chinese cooperation, including in the areas of banking, infrastructure and digitization”.
Finally, the two parties agreed to continue dialogue and exchanges on issues of mutual interest to achieve a mutually beneficial partnership, the statement said.
