The Earth Shakes.. A Series of Earthquakes Hit Argentina, Russia and El Salvador

Argentina – A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck San Luis province in western Argentina on Saturday evening.

Argentina’s National Institute for Earthquake Prevention reported that the earthquake struck San Luis province and was recorded at 18:24 local time and at a depth of 140 kilometers.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake was 129 kilometers below the Earth’s surface.

There was no immediate information about human casualties or material damage resulting from the earthquake.

In Russia, the Regional Emergency Situations Directorate reported that tremors measuring 5.8 degrees on the Richter scale struck the Irkutsk region in Siberia, Russia.

According to the statement of the Directorate, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the waters of Lake Baikal in the region.

The directorate’s press center stated that there were no injuries or damage as a result of the earthquake.

“The earthquake occurred on September 21 at 14:55 (09:55 Moscow time) in the Olkhon region, 25 kilometers from the village of Bogoldyka in the Lake Baikal basin,” the statement said.

According to available information, the tremors were felt in the Irkutsk, Olkhonsky, Slyudyansky, Ikhret-Bulagatsky and Bayandaevsky regions. In the Angara River region, tremors of magnitude 3-4 were recorded.

The US Geological Survey also reported that a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of El Salvador on Saturday evening.

According to the agency’s data, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 75 kilometers and 34 kilometers northeast of the city of La Libertad, which has a population of about 16,800 people.

No injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning was issued.

On the other hand, rain and weather conditions in Japan caused the evacuation of more than 131,000 people in seven cities and towns in Ishikawa Prefecture, west of Honshu Island, due to weather conditions.

Continuous rains in the region have killed one person and left six others missing, and rivers have flooded and landslides have caused power outages for 6,000 households. The main damage from the disaster was in the village of Noto and the cities of Wajima and Suzu.

Wajima city recorded record rainfall, with more than 300 mm falling in 24 hours, the highest level since 1975.
