Police officer Philippe Cussac was central commissioner of Nantes in 2011 when the Dupont de Ligonnès affair took place and the bodies of 5 members of the family were found. He responds to the father’s sister who affirms that the family is still alive.
A case that marked his career. Philippe Cussac, central commissioner of Nantes in 2011 when the Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès affair took place, deplores this Saturday March 16 in an interview with South West the words of the sister of the father, suspected of having killed his wife and their four children before fleeing, and who believes that the family is still alive.
“I was at 55, boulevard Schuman, the day we took out the bodies buried under the terrace of the family home and I know what I saw and felt. The DNA analyzes also spoke,” proclaims the former police officer , now retired and deputy mayor of Royan, in Loire-Atlantique.
“I can certify that the bodies I saw completely matched the photos we had,” he insists.
“idiocies”
For him, there is no doubt regarding the identity of the five people found dead in 2011 in the family home of the Duponts in Ligonnès, contrary to what the sister of Xavier, the father of the family, claims.
Christine Dupont de Ligonnès in fact states in a book, Xavier, my brother, presumed innocent, released on March 13, that the whole family is in reality still alive and that they were exfiltrated to the United States, for whom Xavier worked secretly.
“This woman is in complete denial,” laments Philippe Cussac, frightened by the words of the sister of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès.
“How can we defend the thesis of an exfiltration of the entire family to the United States by the DEA, the American federal agency responsible for combating drug trafficking and distribution, and assert that the French police would have participated in it? by deceiving everyone regarding the identity of the bodies found?”, he asks.
“I was stunned” following hearing the thesis defended by this woman, he assures, deploring “idiocies”.
A “horror” vision
Philippe Cussac recalls that he was on site at the time of the exhumation of the bodies buried under the family terrace. A chilling moment that he remembers perfectly even though more than 10 years have passed since then.
“We took out all the members of the family, of whom we had a photo, one following the other,” he remembers.
Evoking a “horror” vision, he describes a “real mass grave”. “It’s the most terrible moment of my career,” he swears.
The exhumation of the body of the only daughter in the family, Anne, aged 16, particularly marked him. “Unlike the others, her mouth was wide open. You might see her braces. Her face was frozen in a sort of surprised expression,” he notes.
“My belief is that he is still alive”
While there are many theories regarding the exact circumstances of the family’s death and what happened to Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, who has never been found, the police officer also has his theory.
“My belief is that he is still alive. The version of suicide is admissible, but it is not mine. I have experienced other cases of this type. Generally, the killer commits suicide on the spot following having eliminated his family,” he believes.
Suspected of having killed his wife and their four childrenXavier Dupont de Ligonnès has been in demand since 2011.
