The Duma introduced a law on imprisonment for the implementation of Western sanctions

To the State Duma introduced draft law on criminal punishment for the execution of foreign sanctions on the territory of Russia. If the document is adopted, violators will face imprisonment for up to ten years. A criminal case could be initiated for refusing to work with Russian companies and banks that fell under Western restrictive measures.

One of the authors of the initiative, Pavel Krasheninnikov, head of the State Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation, said that a number of Russian companies refuse to work with banks and enterprises that have fallen under sanctions, because they are also afraid to fall under them. “Obviously, one of the goals of foreign sanctions is to destabilize the domestic economy of Russia, push domestic campaigns against each other. To prevent the worsening of the economic situation inside the country, we propose to amend the criminal code,” the official explained.

Another author of the bill, Andrey Klishas, head of the Federation Council committee on constitutional legislation, said on Monday that the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation had already supported the initiative.
