The Dubai market index rises, supported by stocks in the financial and utilities sectors

The Dubai Stock Exchange closed higher on Friday, while the Abu Dhabi Index bucked this trend.

The Dubai index rose 0.5 percent, supported by gains in shares of the financial and utilities sectors. The shares of Emirates NBD Bank, the largest bank in Dubai, increased by 1.7 percent, and the shares of the Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) gained 2.2 percent.

Among the gainers, BHM Capital Financial Services shares rose 14.6 percent following EH Financial Services acquired a 66.97 percent stake in the company from the Jordan Kuwait Bank.

However, the Abu Dhabi index fell 0.1 percent, affected by the decline in the shares of Emirates Telecommunications Group and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) by 1.8 percent each.
