Lhe largest wetland in Europe is in the process of desertification. This finding, visible to the naked eye, was revealed in the latest report from the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (Csic) published in early April: 59.2% of the lagoons in Doñana Park are now completely dry. “The study speaks of 59% of these lagoons which have not received water for at least ten years, but the reality is that all of the park’s lagoons are drying up, the situation is critical”, estimates Felipe Fuentesalz, agriculture division coordinator and area specialist for WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature).
