Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Director of the Drug Authority, confirmed that there are three companies producing insulin in Egypt, explaining that 400,000 packets of insulin were injected into pharmacies in June and July.

In a telephone conversation with journalist Ahmed Moussa on the “My Responsibility” program broadcast on the Sada El Balad channel, Ghamrawi added that the volumes injected into the market meet the required demand. He also pointed out that the first company produced 1.1 million packets of insulin locally.

“In the next ten days, locally produced insulin will flood the Egyptian market,” he continued.

He emphasized that Egypt consumes about 350,000 packets of insulin every month, and the consumption may reach up to 500,000 packets.

He pointed out that from August to December next year, in addition to local production, there will be more than 5 million packages of imported insulin from abroad to meet market demand.

He explained: All legal action will be taken against any pharmacy selling medicines at higher than published prices, which could lead to closure.

He called on citizens to call 15301 to report if they find pharmacies mislabeling drugs.
