Author of spectacular speeding tickets last September in Upper Valais, two Scandinavians received a one-year suspended sentence and a heavy fine.
the September 1, a Swede and a Norwegian were guilty of serious speeding violations at the wheel of their sports cars while climbing the Simplon Pass. Both were participating in a “Cannonball”, an illegal race between individuals, across Europe.
Informed of the passage of this “road trip”, the cantonal police of Valais had taken the lead by installing radars on the passes of Grimsel and Simplon. Thirteen minutes apart, two Ferrari drivers were thus flashed at 150 km / h and 151 km / h on a section limited to 80 km / h, on the Simplon pass. These police checks also made it possible to verbalize 17 other participants.
After deduction of the tolerance margin, speeding violations of 64 km / h were retained (see box)! At the beginning of December, the Court of Brig sentenced the two drivers to 12 months in prison with a two-year suspension, reveals the “Valais messenger“. The latter also had to pay, each, the procedural costs of 1,700 francs and a fine: 3,880 francs for the Norwegian and 3,958.44 francs for the Swedish (see box). After being intercepted by the cantonal police, both had to pay a deposit of 4000 francs in order to be able to leave behind the wheel of their vehicle. The two judgments are final and entered into force.
