The bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” establishes that agents of foreign influence are legal entities whose source of 20% of their annual income is “foreign power”. The Georgian parliament planned to consider the American version of the law in the near future, Sputnik notes. The ruling party and the authors of the bill, the Power of the People public movement, insisted that the draft law is intended to ensure transparency in the financing of the media and NGOs, this is its only goal. Opponents said that the document was adopted in order to prevent Georgia from obtaining the status of a candidate for EU membership, and violates the country’s Constitution.
UPD: After the withdrawal of the bill, the Georgian opposition canceled the briefing on civil disobedience, reports TASS. According to “Sputnik”, it was decided not to hold plenary sessions in Parliament this week. Due to damage to the building, access will be restricted. Damage is being assessed and infrastructure is being restored.
