Pediatrics. The League once morest Cancer, the E.Leclerc Réunion group and the Réunion University Hospital are launching the “All united once morest cancer” operation to collect donations. From March 22 to April 2, Reunionese will have the opportunity to make a donation of at least 2 euros at the checkout of the 18 E.Leclerc stores on the island. All of the funds will then be donated directly to the pediatric oncology and hematology department of the CHU.
Cancer is considered the second leading cause of death among young people. In France, 2,500 new cases of pediatric cancers are diagnosed each year. The challenge of this operation is then all the more important: it is a question of financing research work on new treatments for young patients, but also the support of children and their families during treatment: “Cancers need to be treated differently in children, so specific research is needed,” says Dr. Yves Reguerre, head of the pediatric oncology and hematology department. “Since the launch of the partnership, 13 new treatment protocols have been opened and 85 new patients have been welcomed”intervenes Lionel Calenge, director general of the CHU. “Progress is daily, we must continue. 80% of cancers are cured in the pediatric oncology department“, insist Head of Service.
“After two years of absence linked to the health crisis, the operation “All united once morest cancer” is back this year with a target of 160,000 euros”, explains Lionel Calenge. Donations are made directly at the cash desk with the 500 hosts and hostesses who offer each customer the option of donating 2 euros or more. The money collected is then paid into a dedicated account and fully allocated to the League Against Cancer, which then takes care of donating the funds to the service concerned. “This project will first serve all Reunionese and their families”, says Ajaguy Permale, CSR manager of the E.Leclerc brand. The latter concludes: “It’s a tailor-made project that responds to local issues”.
