The Dominican Minister of Environment was killed in his office

Dominican Republic government spokesman, Homero Figueroa, confirmed in a video broadcast on Monday the assassination of Environment Minister Orlando Mera inside his office in the capital, Santo Domingo. The spokesman explained that the information currently available indicates that the perpetrator is a personal friend of the minister, and he has been arrested. “On behalf of the government and President of the Republic, Loris Abenader, we express our sincere condolences to the family,” Figueroa said. The circumstances of the incident are still unknown. It is noteworthy that Mira, 55, has been the Minister of Environment for less than two years.
