The Animal Care and Welfare program of the Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta reached the Los Cardonales neighborhood, where a Creole dog named “Shantal José Zarate Vásquez” stole all eyes.
Her age is intriguing, because her “mommy”, Mrs. María Teresa Vázquez, says that she met her last September, on a rainy night when she came to take shelter in her home and since that day, neither has separated from the other. .
“One day when a very heavy downpour fell, she came to the house and from there she has stayed in our home, I adopted her, she has been with us for 4 months now, she is quite a model”, says María Teresa.
Doña “Mari” as they call her in her neighborhood, as soon as she found out that the days of sterilizations and veterinary medical consultations were going to arrive in Los Cardonales, she got up early to have Shantal operated on, and thus help control the overpopulation of canines, which causes many puppies suffer in the streets.
Likewise, he learned in the training that he was given during the day, that this surgery also helps to prolong the life of the animals much more, because it will reduce many diseases that might occur over time if they were not sterilized.
“I have my diploma, which is also from Shantal, how good they are doing these campaigns,” he said.
This canine is one of the 2,604 beneficiaries of the sterilization days that have been carried out this year, and that are carried out throughout the urban and rural area of the District, this in order to guarantee the well-being and rights of the fauna.
Next Monday, December 12, from 6:00 in the morning, the program will be in the communal house of the Corea neighborhood.
